Gourd Artist Russ Conley was diagnosed with ALS in November 2006. He is striving to raise $5,000 towards ALS research, and recently made it to the halfway point.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a progressive, fatal, neurodegenerative disease caused by the degeneration of motor neurons, the nerve cells in the central nervous system that control voluntary muscle movement. There is no cure.
Visit Russ' gallery website to see some of his work. To contribute towards Russ' fundraising drive, visit this link (ALSA).
Fellow artist Bonnie Gibson has created a gourd art piece to help Russ' cause. You can purchase a $1 raffle ticket for the piece, and proceeds go towards Russ' ALS fundraising. The drawing will take place in August 2007. Visit Bonnie's website for more information on the artwork and how you can contribute.
