Gourd artists Joanne and Albert Hall of Duval, Florida, are featured in an article in the Daily Sun Online Edition.

When a Gourd isn't a Gourd...

Just recently came across this link for Carroll Industries, a company in Missouri that manufactures birdhouses. Among their products are Gourd Birdhouses. But these birdhouses are not gourds as we know them... they're gourd-shaped aluminum or plastic (not certain) products. Definitely not organic gourds.

The things that make you go "hmmm..."

Where's the Link to....?

The Gourdblog is still new by most standards... it's still in its first month since inception. On average, I've been able to add two or three items a day, with that number surely to go up.

It's an evolving site, with new stuff added regularly, and new links added as well. You'll see on the one side a list of farms, for example... it's not a complete list because (a) not all farms have been located, or (b) some locations don't have web access or email (e.g. the Smucker farm in Amish country, Pennsylvania).

So, if you come across this list and see that you're not on it, or know someone who's not on it, it's not because you or they are being ignored... I just haven't found you or added you yet! Of course, you can always stir the fire under this mass and send in an email requesting to be added. (Stirring of the the fire is encouraged and welcomed!)

The email address is gourdblog@gmail.com

More links will be added in various categories... Gourd Artists, Suppliers, Galleries, and much more.

Artists Join Forces to Start a Gallery

If you're having trouble getting a gallery to display your work, perhaps the solution is to create your own gallery. Just as the saying goes, if you can't join 'em, beat 'em at their own game. Or something like that.

Basketweaver and Gourd Artist Joyce Causey combined with other artists to create their own co-op in Bainbridge, Georgia. Read more on this story here (including a video) (WALB.com)

The Co-op Gallery is hosted by the Firehouse Gallery, located at 119 W. Water St., Bainbridge, GA 31717.

The Gourd... A Cure for Asthma?

The Nigerian Tribune reports on interesting natural methods of dealing with asthma, even suggesting that the affliction can be cured.

One of the methods involves gourd juice: "A cupful of fresh bitter gourd juice mixed with a table spoonful of pure honey taken once daily for three to four months depending on severity of asthma, according to natural medicine practitioners would cure asthma and chronic bronchitis."

It's hard to say if this works. There is a great deal of promise in natural methods that may or may not work, depending on the person. As an asthma and severe allergy sufferer myself, I'd look to any possibility with hope, mixed with a certain degree of skepticism.

Stay tuned...
